Consolidation of the Sydney airport runway, Australia

Consolidation of an airport runway retaining walls

The third runway on the Sydney International Airport is built on reclaimed land whose retaining walls had to be retrofitted. Menard was chosen to build, behind the existing wall, a continuous jet grouting column gravity wall. A total of 5,000 columns of 1 to 2.70 m in diameter were built despite difficult conditions due to the limitations imposed by the Australian air traffic regulations for work along the operating runways.
