Largest single stage treatment in Brisbane's port

In 2009 the largest single stage treatment of Menard VacuumTM consolidation technique was installed as part of Port of Brisbane’s Fisherman Island expansion project. A significant increase of the Port of Brisbane capacity had been planned, by reclaiming an additional 235 ha of land.

Further to the successful vacuum trial on a 15,000 m², the Port of Brisbane Corporation engaged Menard Oceania (ex Menard Bachy) to implement the Menard VacuumTM consolidation technique, on a much larger scale at the adjacent 93,000 m² large reclamation paddock S3B. As a result the vacuum operation was designed for an 18 months period, whilst the volume of surcharge used was kept to a minimum.

A 15 m deep cut-off perimeter wall was installed to isolate the vacuum area because of the deep, permeable, sand lenses and layers in the subsurface profile present at Port of Brisbane. As a first worldwide, the huge area was consolidated in only one vacuum stage.
